Telepractice

Telepractice for individuals with a disability and their support networks.
A developmental educator’s (DE) role is to assist the individual and their support networks. Teletherapy is very effective in intervention. Teletherapy sessions can be used to assist the individual living with a disability to build their capacity and/or providing guidance to their support network about planning and evaluating interventions and programs, potential strategies, parent coaching, identifying resources, advocacy advice, and general wellbeing. Teletherapy sessions can be useful for clients and their families as it often fits in better with their family schedules, allows parents to communicate without interruptions, and can provide the individual with some privacy when needed. Some families prefer services that incorporate both in person therapy and telehealth to experience the benefits of both service delivery methods.
Telepractice for schools
Teletherapy for schools is effective for schools that live outside of the Wide Bay Queensland region. It is effective in both one-to-one delivery method and in larger groups utilising modern technology (e.g. Microsoft teams, Zoom). Both delivery methods enable Kate to work with your school community to achieve the best outcomes for your students and provide valuable professional learning which can be useful when designing or implementing programs or making environmental adjustments in the school environment. Teletherapy sessions can also be useful for parents and carers as it allows them to develop their knowledge of disability, how to support their child to reach their full potential, and how to access support (e.g. NDIS, Carer Gateway). Email Kate to discuss how developmental education can help your school community.
